Year 5 – Camping

Year 5 – Camping

At the beginning of July, year 5 spent the night camping on the school field. We took part in lots of exciting activities such as fire lighting, den building, problem solving, treasure hunts and we even hosted our own talent show!

The children worked together to set up their campsite and showed great independence in staying the night in their tents. They enjoyed the evening disco and campfire and were able to socialise with children from across the year group.

Camping provided the children and staff with fond, positive memories to last a lifetime. It was a fitting end to year 5 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

What The Student Says

"I enjoyed camping and staying overnight in school. It was nice to be able to spend time with all my friends."

"I enjoyed spending time with all the people in my tent and I also enjoyed Miss Barnett's campfire songs too."

"I really enjoyed the free time we had as well as the activities. When we built our dens the teachers would come and check if they were waterproof by pouring a bucket of water over them. I also enjoyed the water fight!"

What skills were developed?

  • Light a fire using flint and steel
  • Communicate effectively with each other
  • Work together to problem solve
  • Develop their creativity through the talent show, poster designs and much more
  • Develop their self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Put up and take down a tent correctly

What the Teacher says

"The children were phenomenal! They threw themselves into every opportunity and showed enthusiasm in all activities. They developed a range of different skills and made lovely memories with each other.

I felt proud of each and everyone of the children for overcoming fears, showing kindness and respect to each other throughout the experience. Camping has had a positive impact on all children and it was a very rewarding experience to be part of."
