Year 3 – Music

Year 3 – Music

Project Overview

This half term the children have been building on their musical knowledge.

During their choir sessions the children have continued to lead the brain, body and voice warm ups before beginning to sing any songs. The children know about the different actions associated with each warm up and are beginning to make up their own which they include in the warm. The children are gaining confidence in leading this themselves and it is lovely to see how they support each other. Once the children are fully warmed up they recap the different notes they have learnt and the hand signs for the different notes. They practise their scales using the note names and hand signals and they have picked this up really quickly. The children are taught a song line by line and they are able to discuss the pitch of the notes, the dynamics and the beat.

In Year 3 string sessions the children have learnt about their different instruments. They know the different notes that their instruments play and they are learning how to use a bow to play. They are beginning to compose their own tunes and have learnt to play solo, as a duet or trio.

The children are really enjoying their music lessons.

What The Student Says

“I love playing the cello.”

“We worked hard to get our bow badges and I can now hold my bow properly.”

“I really enjoy learning the different songs and adding actions.”

What skills were developed?

The children have:

  • developed their creative skills by performing rhythmic improvisation
  • they have honed their instrumental techniques in order to play loud and soft sounds
  • they have learnt the Italian words to mean loud or soft
  • they are learning faster rhythms whilst maintaining a steady beat

What The Teacher Says

It has been an absolute pleasure to see the progress all the children are making in their music lessons. They have an amazing attitude towards their music lessons and enjoying sharing their knowledge when answering questions.

I am so proud of their behaviour and the respect they show in their lessons.
