Year 3 – ICT

Year 3 – ICT

In ICT this half term, the children have learnt about creating media and how to create stop-frame animations.
As lots of us were very excited about using a range of technology to be able to grasp the process of stop-frame animation and show the process ourselves. We began by first learning how stop-frame animation is created and looked at examples. We then created our own basic stop-frame animations on a whiteboard, allowing the easy process of rubbing on and off. This, alongside onion layers in our pictures, allowed for a smooth transition and for us to be able to ensure it was all seamless.
Once we had finished this, we moved onto the next step, creating a story board and mapping out our new stop-frame animation with a background and characters. After meticulous planning, we were able to make our own stop-frame motions and here are some pictures to show our process.

What The Student Says

"It was so cool using the ipad in our lessons."

"Me and My partner were really good at it. We got to make 3 different videos with lots of pictures."

"It was really hard to not get our hand in the photos for the movie but you got to change the speed so sometimes you don't see the accident. We got to make really great videos."

What skills were developed?

  • Selected, used and combined a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices.
  • designed and created a range of stop-frame animations.
  • collected, analysed, evaluated and presented data and information
  • used technology safely, respectfully and responsibly
  • drafted and written a narratives, creating settings, characters and plot

What the Teacher says

It has been such a lovely topic to do with the class. They are always so enthusiastic about using a range of technology in their lessons, so using IPads in ICT was no different. They became really excited about stop-motion as a media type and enjoyed planning, making and evaluating videos. They have learnt so much and worked well in teams and I know they are incredibly proud of the videos they produced, as are Mrs Widdows and myself.
