Reception – All About Me

Reception – All About Me!

Our adventure so far in Reception has been super exciting. We have spent lots of time getting to know each other, building friendships and exploring! The children have also learnt all about themselves, their families and their communities.

We began our adventure by reading ‘The Colour Monster’ which helped us talk about all our feelings surrounding starting Reception. We made our own colour monsters and we even learnt a song about all of the different emotions in the story! We deepened our learning by talking about the features of our own bodies and faces and painted our own self portraits.

We then spent some time learning about our families. We read the lovely story ‘Smeds and Smoos’ which showed us that all famillies are different and special. The children created some beautiful family pictures for our class family tree display, and especially loved talking about their own families.

The children particularly enjoyed exploring and learning about our school. We met some of the special people who work here, and, of course, we met all of the animals too! We looked at lots of maps and learnt that our school is in Belle Isle which is in Leeds, and we also used a map to plan our trip to the library (which we are very excited for next half term!)

We read ‘Paddington at the Palace’, and learnt that the royal family lives in London. We then had lots of fun making our own sandwiches for our royal tea party! The children also made their own collaged commemorative stamp for the Queen. Super learning Reception!

What the Teacher says

I have absolutely loved getting to know the children in Reception this half term. They have all settled in brilliantly and I'm so proud of how well they have adjusted to being in school full time! Seeing the children's confidence grow and their friendships blossom has been absolutely wonderful.

The children have learnt a lot about themselves and their community this half term. A highlight for me has been hearing the children talk about their families and seeing the beautiful display that has been created from their family pictures.

I am so excited to see the children flourish even more next half term!
