Nursery- Settling In

Settling In

We have had a really fun and exciting start to our adventure in Nursery. We have spent time getting to know each other, building friendships and exploring our learning landscape.

The children have especially enjoyed going on adventures in the land of far away and technology town. They have been building their confidence on using the climbing frame, negotiating space on the bikes and strengthening their core muscles on the movement mat.

This half term we have focused on learning about ourselves and our families. We have discovered our different body parts and what they are used and discussed our likes and dislikes. We used the story “I Love Me” to learn how to talk positively about ourselves and discuss our achievements.

We have shared family photos and discussed the similarities and differences of different families. It was very interesting to learn that some of our families live in a different country which means they have to travel on an aeroplane to go and visit them.

We had lots of fun at our ‘Royal Patterned Tea Party’ where we came to school in as many different patterns as possible and made royal patterned crowns. We then decorated pancakes with bananas which we peeled independently to enjoy at our tea party before doing some dancing.

The children have particularly enjoyed reading the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”.  We used the children’s enthusiasm towards the story to go on a bear hunt around our school grounds, acting out the story and joining in with repeated phrases such as “We’re not scared!”

Not forgetting our trip to Middleton Park. We walked through the woods, discovering dinosaur bones, balancing along tree trunks and walking through “thick oozy mud”. We ended our trip by having lots of fun playing on the playground.

What The Student Says

"I liked playing in the kitchen area, playing bakers."

"When I go play on the choo choo train on Carpet Kingdom."

"I like pancakes making."

"The pattern monster has been."

"My favourite has been playing on computer to fix their teeth."

"Brrm Brrm"

"My Mummy has a baby. He cry."

"I going to a party. I make you a cake."

What skills were developed?

  • learned to self regulate when separating from their caregivers.
  • begun to develop their turn taking and sharing skills.
  • discovered a new environment and how to use the resources in it.
  • built knowledge on their daily routines
  • learned all about themselves and their peers.
  • developed their social skills when building new relationships with their peers and grown ups.
  • developed vocabulary in describing patterns.

What the Teacher says

It has been so lovely to get to know all of the children this half term. It has made me feel so proud to watch them grow in confidence and build relationships in a new environment.

I have enjoyed going on lots of adventures with the children, but my favourite thing has been getting to know all of their interests, finding out about them as individuals and looking at family pictures together.

I cannot wait for more exciting adventures together over the year.
