Year 5 – Outdoor Learning
Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed spending lots of time outside, this half term. We have taken part in a range of activities and have been ticking of our ’50 Outdoor Activities to try before you leave Clapgate’ sheets. From cloud watching to the campfire, we have fully immersed ourselves into an abundance of thrilling and adventurous outdoor activities. Over the half-term, Year 5 have been working outside in a variety of subjects including geography, where they used natural objects to construct diagram of the water cycle and in science where we enjoyed some ‘true or false’ active learning activities. Additionally, the children have had the opportunity to spend time with Pablo and Pedro, our new school pygmy goats. They have shown great responsibility in feeding them, cleaning out their pens and playing with them.
More recently, the campfire provided the children with an opportunity to learn about how to light a fire and keep it going, as well as the implications of fire and fire safety. All the children enjoyed tucking into some toasted marshmallows and a nice, warm hot chocolate after their hard work!
