Year 1 – Science – The Human Body

This half term in Science, Year 1 explored the human body and the five senses. We learned about each sense — sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell — and discussed the role each one plays in helping us understand the world around us. To dive deeper, we conducted a fun experiment to test if all parts of our body are equally sensitive to touch, discovering that some areas are more sensitive than others. We also investigated which sense would be most helpful for sorting sweets, learning that our senses of sight and touch can work together to help us make decisions. To wrap up our learning, we went on an exciting trip to Eureka! Museum, where we explored interactive exhibits about the body and senses, bringing everything we’ve learned to life in a hands-on way!

What the Teacher says

The children have worked incredibly hard this half term and shown great enthusiasm in their learning about the human body and senses. It has been wonderful to see how much knowledge they have retained, especially when identifying body parts and understanding the role of each sense. During the trip to Eureka, the children were an absolute credit to our school, displaying lovely manners and impeccable behaviour throughout. Well done, Year 1! Keep up the fantastic work!
