School Dinners

Importance Of Healthy Food In Schools

Eating a healthy diet helps children stay alert during class, fight off illnesses and grow into strong, healthy adults.

School children get up to half the food they need each day at school, which makes schools an important place for learning healthy eating habits.

School food policies help schools provide children with foods and drinks that are part of a healthy diet.

How To Order A School Dinner

We are currently using Arbor to enable you to view and choose your child’s dinner each day.

To book a dinner, log on to Arbor, select Meals from the ‘Quick Actions’ menu. Follow the screen prompts to complete your order.

Dates available to book are shown in a very light grey. If the box is darker grey, this means the purchase window has closed or a school meal is unavailable this day.

Parents should pre-book a child’s dinner.

If you do not order your child a dinner, we will call you and ask for you to bring a packed lunch in for your child. Alternatively we will provide a vegetarian meal. If your School Meal account is in arrears of three weeks you will be asked to send your child in with a packed lunch until the balance is paid.

Packed Lunches

Healthy lunches and snacks are important for active children. It is important to offer healthy lunch box choices.

Eating healthy food helps children concentrate and learn. However, healthy eating changes are not always easy to make. Try to set a good example with your own lunches. Encourage children to help choose and prepare their own lunch. They might like to make a list of the foods they enjoy. Praise your child when they choose healthy foods for their lunch box.

Food Waste

Sadly, schools are guilty of being big food wasters: every year in the UK alone, they throw away 123,000 tonnes of food, costing 250m annually!

So, how can we reduce school waste?

  • Ensure meals are pre booked so the kitchen know how many dinners to make.
  • Speak with your child about the dinner menu and choose meals together to ensure the child likes and will eat the selection.
