U11 vs Middleton St Mary’s

Friday 28th April

Our U11 team played their final game of the season. A tough battle against a strong Middleton St Mary’s side. The teams played 2 fixtures each lasting 30 minutes.

The team were excellent in the first game and worked brilliantly together. Frustratingly, Middleton St Mary’s scored just before full time to make the game 1-0. The team tried to remain focused in the second game but unfortunately Middleton St Mary’s scored twice so make the game 2-0. Well done to our U11 team who have worked tirelessly this season. A special mention to Danny who was player of the match for his fantastic defending!

U9 Champion of Champions

Friday 28th April

As a result of winning the league, our U9’s were invited to take part in a city wide champion of champions event at Middleton Leisure Centre. Within this, the top 4 teams from the Northern and Southern U9 league would play. Our Clapgate team were up against Northern league 4th place- West End.

The game was only 8 minutes each half. Clapgate remained strong, communicated well and had a number of chances on target but struggled to score. They kept on battling and worked brilliantly together as always. Unfortunately they were unable to score which meant the game went to penalties.

Penalties were the best out of 3. We missed 2 and West End scored both which meant they won the game and remained in the tournament. The team were gutted and it was a shock result but they should be proud of how they worked together. Mr McQuillen-Strong who runs the league said he couldn’t believe the result but that it doesn’t take away from how well our U9’s have played throughout the league.

Thandie Trampolining

Sunday 23rd April

A special mention to Thandie who competed in the Trampolining English Qualifier. Clubs from all over the country come to compete in the hope to qualify to the finals. Thandie qualified and came 3rd out of 56! Absolutely incredible- well done Thandie!!

Year 6 Cheerleading

Wednesday 26th April

10 of our Year 6 children attended Ruth Gorse Academy to participate in a cheerleading event. Within the event, the children watched Ruth Gorse’s cheerleading team perform a routine which was brilliant to see. The children were then put into groups to learn cheerleading routines from the Ruth Gorse team. They did extremely well at picking up the dances and piecing the moves together. Following their practise time, each group came up to perform their new routines. Well done to our Clapgate group who made fantastic progress and performed brilliantly.

Special mention to Darcy, Macie Mae & Katelyn who came 3rd and to Dominika & Evie who came 1st!!

U11 vs Sharp Lane

Tuesday 25th April

Another very hard battle fought by our U11 team against Sharp Lane at home. The team held their positions and worked consistently throughout. A lucky goal by Sharp Lane saw them 1-0 up going into half time.

The start of the 2nd half saw Sharp Lane take advantage of kick off and score to make it 2-0. The team made a number of defence blocks and had some chances at scoring but just couldn’t quite get it over the line.

Well done to our Clapgate team for never giving up and always giving it their all

Player of the match- Harley Walker for being a consistent, key player in the team

U9 vs Beckfield

Friday 21st April

The final match of the U9’s 22/23 South Leeds League and what a way to end it! It took the team a few minutes to find their feet in the first match, however once they got their bearings the game was well and truly theirs to control. A great demonstration of team chemistry and communication, the team moved around the pitch with speed whilst manoeuvring the ball further and further up the pitch after each goal.
The first match saw the team dominate with a 5 – 0 win. Moving in to the second match we saw the play style progress further and more passes were completed successfully. The possession was very much all Clapgate and the team were able to keep much of the play out of their half. A 7 – 0 victory in the second match, and with that the U9 team are the UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS!

A huge thank you to all the parents/carers who have come to support at both home and away games, it’s been amazing to see Clapgate come out in force to support and cheer on the sporting talents of the children! Also, a huge thankyou to the staff who have been directly involved with the team. Several members of staff have been a part of the development of the U9’s team and their efforts have allowed all of this to work, from training to booking fixtures, and transport to refereeing- Mr Queeley, Mr Cockroft, Mr Denny & Mrs Clark.

Finally, the players. A rolling team combined of 3’s, 4’s and in some cases year 2’s. These children have performed phenomenally, taking pride in their school and team they’ve battled hard on the pitch to maintain score lines and come out victorious time and time again. You are all a credit to the school and should be extremely proud of yourselves. Thank you for your hard work and continued efforts, it’s all paid off!

The team are through to the City Wide U9 Finals on Friday 28th April

U9 vs Westerton

Monday 17th April

This was the most challenging team our U9’s has ever played…. Game one was back and forth with some great tackles and shots on target, the boys secured the win with 2 goals to 1. The second match proved a more difficult endeavour! 10 minutes in and the team were down 1 – 0, another 5 minutes and despite some amazing efforts to drive up the pitch and punch through the defence, the team couldn’t quite grasp a goal to equalise.

Moving into the last few minutes of the game the boys were fired up and tensions were high, they were able to equalise however the thought of losing their winning streak was hard to accept…. In the last 30 seconds of the match, we saw one final push up the pitch to secure the second goal and subsequent win for Clapgate! It was a battle to the last second and each player from both teams showed real heart and determination throughout. #️ClapgateUnbeaten!

U11 vs Middleton Primary

Monday 27th March

A huge well done to our U11 football team who played at home against Middleton Primary- a very strong team in the league.

The first half was a battle, both teams having the ball but Middleton pushed and pushed. Harry made some outstanding saves, Danny didn’t miss a tackle, Harley pressed in the middle, William K led the back line with composure. However, on the 15th minute the pressure told and Middleton scored with a fabulous strike leaving Harry no chance.

Half time came and the children had plenty of positives to take with Mr Cockcroft adding he’d never seen the team play as well.

The second half was underway and the game was much more even with Clapgate showing real fight, passion and commitment. We were not going to concede again.

Ethan and Maisie solid on the right, Darryl always an option on the left with Kian and Alfie being threats up front.

Subs Riley and Zac came on and had a positive influence, snapping into challenges and determined to get the ball forward. We pushed and pushed for a goal and Harley had a shot from distance that worried the keeper.

We were having more of the ball. Another outstanding save from Harry and a goal mouth clearance kept us in the game. Just as we were finding more and more space the whistle went for full time – a 2nd half drawn 0-0.

Parents applauded and Mr Cockcroft again came to congratulate the children on their amazing efforts and game improvement.

Mr Robins is extremely proud of the team for this fixture. Middleton knew they had been in a tough game

The Year 6 were managed by Miss Procter and Miss Jessop with a high amount of subs being made across the game to ensure every child who wanted to got to play.

The game got off to a mixed start with both teams having high possession of the ball and attempts at goal. The teachers first goal came from a scrappy attack followed by a deflection out which Mr Robins took full advantage of to make a great strike and score!

The Year 6’s kept their heads together and stayed strong as a team. Teachers had a lot of attacking chances and after a number of attempts Mr Queeley made it 2-0. We then had another goal from Mr Queeley, a goal by Mr Cockroft and a goal by Miss Holmes! This made the end score 5-0 to the teachers.
